The Pajero is $$$
Hats down, you will spend more if you buy a Pajero. To understand why, you have to go back to the history of the Toyota Hilux Surf. It was a spin-off from the Hilux pick-up truck of Toyota so there is a slight connotation that it isn’t as good. People who make this assumption or get influenced to buy the Pajero because of this bit of Hilux Surf history soon find out that in the long haul, the Hilux Surf is more dependable.
The Pajero Has a Funky Name
In Spanish, Pajero has a sexual meaning which is why it was renamed “Montero” in Spanish-speaking countries. It carries that burden and can be the butt of a joke among friends and frenemies. Originally though, the company named the Pajero after a pampas cat or Leopardus Pajero.
The Higher Hilux Surf
Compared to the Pajero, the Hilux Surf has a higher seat but you get the feeling that you’re in a car, not an SUV. Perhaps this may be attributed to the fact that the seats are better in the Toyota and a lot more comfortable. Toyota did make it a point to put comfort over power when designing the Hilux Surf.
Similarly though, both vehicles are easy and affordable to modify. They have good fuel economy. The Hilux Surf has better load space if you put the back seats down. Nonetheless, bBoth vehicles are good for off road so it boils down to price and personal preference.
